Cost & Pricing

How much does pool resurfacing cost in Phoenix?

Pool resurfacing in Phoenix typically costs:

  • White plaster (marcite): $4,500–$7,500 — 8–12 year lifespan in Arizona
  • Quartz aggregate: $6,500–$10,500 — 12–18 years, stain-resistant
  • Pebble Tec / pebble finishes: $7,500–$13,000 — 15–25 years, premium durability

Costs vary by pool size, surface condition, and whether structural repairs are needed. We provide free written estimates with itemized pricing. Call (623) 294-9154 to schedule yours.

How do I know if my pool needs resurfacing or just an acid wash?

Acid wash (drain and clean) removes surface stains and calcium buildup but adds no new material. If your plaster is structurally sound and relatively smooth but stained, acid wash may restore it for another 2–4 seasons.

Resurfacing is the right call when the plaster is rough, pitted, peeling, or showing widespread deterioration. Acid wash on failing plaster is a temporary fix that delays the inevitable by one season. We'll assess your pool honestly and tell you which situation you're in — no upsell pressure.

Timeline & Process

How long does pool resurfacing take?

Most Phoenix pool resurfacing projects take 4–7 days from drain to fill:

  • Day 1–2: Drain, acid wash, surface prep, crack repair
  • Day 2–3: New surface application
  • Days 3–7: Curing, fill, startup chemistry

After filling, new plaster requires a 28–30 day break-in period before normal swimming. Total out-of-service time: roughly 5–6 weeks from drain to open swim.

Do I need to be home during the work?

No. We need access to the pool area and a working water source for the fill. Most homeowners go about their normal routine while we work. We communicate daily on progress and alert you before the fill begins so you can monitor the startup chemistry phase. You should plan to check water chemistry once or twice daily for the first two weeks after filling.

Can you resurface a pool with water in it?

No. Pool resurfacing requires draining the pool completely. The surface must be dry, clean, and structurally sound before any new finish is applied. Draining also allows us to inspect the shell for cracks, delamination, or structural issues that aren't visible when the pool is full — issues that could cause the new surface to fail prematurely if left unaddressed.

When is the best time to resurface a pool in Arizona?

October through March is the optimal window. Temperatures between 60–85°F allow new finishes to cure properly without the heat stress of Arizona summers (115°F+). Summer resurfacing is possible but requires additional monitoring and careful startup chemistry management.

Spring (March–April) booking fills 3–4 weeks out. If you want the pool done before Memorial Day weekend, schedule your estimate in February or early March.

Finish Options

What's the difference between plaster, quartz, and Pebble Tec?
  • White plaster (marcite): Cement + marble dust. Traditional finish, smooth surface, lowest upfront cost. 8–12 year lifespan in Arizona.
  • Quartz aggregate: White plaster mixed with quartz crystals. Harder, more stain-resistant, still smooth to the touch. 12–18 year lifespan.
  • Pebble Tec / pebble aggregate: Small river pebbles bound in cement. Premium textured finish. Most UV and stain resistant. 15–25 year lifespan.

In Arizona's climate — intense UV, heat, and hard water — quartz or pebble is almost always the better long-term investment.

Pebble Tec vs plaster — which is better for Phoenix pools?

For Phoenix pools, Pebble Tec and quartz aggregate outperform standard plaster in nearly every category:

  • Durability: 15–25 years vs 8–12 for plaster
  • Stain resistance: Much higher — the textured surface hides minor imperfections
  • UV tolerance: Significantly better in Arizona's sun intensity
  • Algae resistance: Better — fewer micro-pores for algae to colonize

Plaster is the lower upfront cost option. In Arizona's aggressive climate, the upgrade to pebble or quartz typically pays off within the lifespan of one resurface cycle.

How long does pool plaster last in Arizona?

Standard white plaster lasts 8–12 years in Arizona — shorter than national averages due to intense UV, 115°F+ summer heat, and hard alkaline water. Quartz aggregate extends that to 12–18 years. Pebble Tec and pebble finishes last 15–25 years under the same conditions. The Arizona climate is harder on pool surfaces than most markets; premium finishes earn their cost premium here.

Warranties & Licensing

Do you offer warranties on pool resurfacing?

Yes — we back our work with a 7-year warranty on labor and materials. The warranty covers delamination, surface failure, and workmanship defects. It does not cover damage from improper water chemistry, structural issues pre-existing before the resurface, or freeze events. We provide a full written warranty document with every completed job.

Are you licensed and insured in Arizona?

Yes. We are licensed through the Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC) and carry full general liability and workers' compensation insurance. You can verify any Arizona contractor's license at roc.az.gov. Always verify before signing any pool contract — unlicensed pool work can void homeowner's insurance coverage and create liability issues at resale.

Can surface cracks be repaired during resurfacing?

Yes — surface cracks in the plaster are addressed during the resurfacing prep. We chip out and patch them before applying the new finish. Structural cracks (through the shell itself) are a separate repair that goes before the resurface and is quoted separately. We identify any structural issues during the free estimate inspection. Most cracks homeowners see are surface-only and are included in the standard resurface price.
